How GritCert Works

GritCert is not a white-label app. It is an entitlement engine.

When you become a GritCert tenant, you are not buying a copy of a learning platform. You are subscribing to specific courses and features that run on shared, maintained infrastructure. Every improvement to the platform — a better quiz engine, a new certificate template, a new reporting dashboard — is available to every tenant the moment it ships.

The Course Entitlement Model

Think of a GritCert course as a product, not a feature.

The CDL Theory course exists once in the platform. It has a version. It meets FMCSA ELDT requirements regardless of which tenant delivers it. When you onboard as a tenant, you are assigned course entitlements — the specific courses your students can access.

Example tenant configurations:

Tenant TypeCourse Entitlements
Trucking schoolCDL Theory (ELDT) v2, DOT Hazmat v1
Carrier onboarding programCDL Theory (ELDT) v2
HVAC training providerEPA 608 Core v1, EPA 608 Universal v1
Safety consulting firmOSHA 10-Hour v3, OSHA 30-Hour v2, Forklift v1

You choose the courses. GritCert maintains the content.

What Happens When a Course Updates

When GritCert publishes a new version of a course — say, cdl-theory-eldt-v3 — your new students automatically get the latest version. Students already enrolled stay pinned to the version they started on. Their progress, their seat time, their completion records are never disrupted.

This matters for regulatory compliance. If an auditor asks what curriculum a student completed, the answer is always exact: version, publish date, content hash.

Feature Entitlements

Courses are not the only thing tenants subscribe to. Platform features work the same way.

Some features are included for all tenants. Others are available as add-ons. You enable them per tenant in the GritCert Admin Console — no redeploy, no code change.

Example features:

  • Employer reporting dashboard — employers see their sponsored students’ progress in real time
  • Cohort scheduling — enroll groups of students with synchronized start dates
  • Custom certificate header — your logo and brand name on every certificate issued
  • Instructor evaluation module — BTW and hands-on evaluation forms tied to student records
  • API access — connect GritCert enrollment data to your own systems

Not every tenant needs every feature. You pay for what you use.

Your Brand, Our Engine

GritCert is invisible to your students. They see your name, your logo, your colors. They log in at your subdomain. Their certificates carry your brand.

Behind the scenes, GritCert handles:

  • Authentication and account management
  • Adaptive learning engine (PathFinder) — placement diagnostic, track assignment, remediation loops, mastery exams
  • Compliance record keeping in the format required by your regulatory body
  • Certificate generation and audit trail
  • Platform uptime, security, and infrastructure

You handle:

  • Marketing and student acquisition
  • Student support
  • Any in-person or hands-on evaluation components

Adding a Tenant

Provisioning a new tenant takes less than 30 minutes in the GritCert Admin Console:

  1. Create the tenant organization
  2. Set the subdomain (e.g., yourschool.gritcert.com) or custom domain
  3. Upload your logo and set brand colors
  4. Assign course entitlements
  5. Assign feature entitlements
  6. Invite your first admin user

Students can enroll immediately.

When Tenants Have Different Needs

GritCert is designed for variance. Different industries have different regulatory requirements, different content structures, different student journeys.

The platform handles this through compliance handlers — a pluggable layer that generates the exact compliance record format required by your regulatory body. An FMCSA ELDT record looks different from an EPA 608 record, which looks different from an OSHA 10-hour record. The platform generates the right format automatically based on the course’s regulatory module.

This means adding a new vertical to GritCert — a new industry, a new regulatory body — does not change the core platform. It adds a new compliance handler, a new course, and new entitlements. Existing tenants are unaffected.
